Is The Next Bond On Ice?
Normally by this time we would not only know the name of the next Bond film but who is the director, Bond Nemesis and Bond Girl. Unfortunately, Bond might be held up in another hold over like the franchise’s movie drought between1990 and 1994.
The fansite MI6.com confirmed Sam Mendes as the director of Bond 23 but… “Mendes is currently understood to be signed as a ‘consultant’ on Bond 23 to avoid a trigger payment from cash-strapped MGM. As the future ownership of the studio is in question, EON have avoided any possible ownership issues on the movie by holding fire on Mendes signing as director until the situation is resolved. MGM’s debt holders have extended the freeze on interest payments until mid-May to help the lion find a new suitable owner, or other financial restructuring plan.”
Peter Morgan, the screenwriter for Frost/Nixon and The Queen had been announced as one of the writers for Bond 23 earlier but was recently put in a hold pattern.
Daniel Craig says he expects to start filming at the end of 2010 and believe the film will be released at the end of 2011.
Let’s hope the Lion releases franchise to a great studio that can continue the Bond tradition well into the future.
